Finna adjusted her glasses and stared at the empty lot before her. Her white ears twitched with excitement. She clutched the folded papers in her hoodie pocket—building plans for an adoption center. This place would give animals real homes, real families. One day she'd run it with someone special, someone she hadn't met yet. Her tail swished behind her as she imagined rows of kennels, a bright play area, and families smiling as they chose their new pets. The dream felt close enough to touch. Three months later, the building stood finished. The playhouse looked perfect with its spider-web trim and bat-shaped windows. Finna walked through the front door and breathed in the smell of fresh paint. The main room had space for cages and a desk. The back area opened to a yard where animals could run and play. She ran her fingers along the wall and grinned. Outside, she hammered a wooden sign into the ground near the entrance. The painted girl on it had red eyes and a welcoming smile. Below the image, bold letters read "Adoption Center—Open Soon." Finna stepped back and wiped her hands on her jeans. People walking by would see it now. They'd know where to come. She set up the grooming station in the yard that afternoon. The brass pump gleamed in the sunlight, its copper tubes and gears fitted together like a puzzle. Finna tested the hose and watched water flow into the funnel. Every animal would get a bath before meeting families. They'd look their best, feel their best. She tightened the last connection and stood up straight. The center was ready. Her dream had walls, windows, and a purpose. Soon it would have animals, and then families, and one day—someone to share it all with.
