Scarlett pushed through the market crowd, her fox ears flat against her red hair. She clutched a worn petition in her hand. The paper held three hundred signatures from people who wanted cats as pets again. The kingdom had banned them five years ago, calling them bad luck. Scarlett knew better. She'd grown up with a tabby named Whiskers before the law tore them apart. Now she spent every free moment collecting names, organizing protests, and speaking to anyone who would listen. Her tail swished with determination. She would change this cruel law, no matter how long it took. A small building stood at the edge of the square. Pink walls caught the afternoon light. Scarlett had decorated it herself last week. Painted cats danced across the front. Tiny lights hung from the roof. Inside, she'd stacked pamphlets and more petitions. People stopped to read her message every day. Some signed. Some argued. But they all knew about the law now. Scarlett walked past a green and orange truck parked near the fountain. The words "Infinity Forest" marked its side. She'd borrowed it twice to move supplies around town. The owner supported her cause. He'd even helped her transport three stray cats to a safe farm outside the city walls. The kingdom couldn't punish what it didn't see. Her real goal waited across town. The pink and gold stadium rose above the other buildings. That's where the council met each month. That's where she would present her petition. That's where she would make them listen. Scarlett folded the paper carefully and tucked it inside her jacket. Soon, she'd stand before the kingdom's rulers. Soon, cats would come home.
