Feyree Glimmer pressed her tiny palms against the shop window in Breezewood. Inside, couples laughed over steaming mugs. Her flame-hair flickered orange and blue. She wanted one thing: to win back the lover who broke her heart. But first, she had to learn how to trust again. She pulled away from the glass and drifted down the cobblestone path. Her wings left tiny sparks in the air behind her. The town square opened up before her, and she spotted a wooden gazebo with open sides. Warm light glowed from its beams. People sat on the benches inside, talking quietly. Some held hands. Others just sat close together. This place felt safe, like hurt could heal here. Feyree floated closer to the gazebo's edge. A lantern post stood nearby with glass panels that caught the afternoon sun. Someone had tucked folded papers inside the hollow base. She landed on the post and peered through the glass. The papers were covered in wishes and hopes. One read: "Let me be brave enough to try again." Her chest tightened. She understood that feeling. She needed a plan to rebuild what was broken between them. The gazebo could be their meeting place when the time came. But she wasn't ready yet. First, she had to prove to herself that opening her heart again was possible. Feyree took a deep breath and her flames shifted to soft gold. Small steps. That's how trust would grow.
