Jin Wukong gripped the rusty fire escape railing and pulled himself up in one smooth motion. His red jacket flashed in the afternoon light. Below, the alley buzzed with vendors setting up for Lunar New Year. He wanted to become champion of the underground acrobatic competition circuit. Every flip, every leap brought him closer to that dream. Red banners hung between buildings. Gold lanterns swayed in the breeze. Jin spotted the obstacle course through the crowd. Wooden platforms stretched across the square, covered in dragon patterns. Vendors had built it for the festival, but Jin saw something else. This was his chance to train where people could watch. He dropped from the fire escape and landed in a crouch. The course sat empty, waiting. Jin climbed onto the first platform and tested the balance beam. His feet found the narrow surface easily. He walked across, then faster. The red and gold patterns blurred beneath him. Years of rooftop training made this feel natural. Jin backflipped off the beam and landed on a lower platform. A small crowd had gathered to watch. He grinned and launched into a series of moves. Spring off one platform, grab the edge of another, twist in the air. The championship circuit would be tougher than this practice run. But every eye on him now was proof he belonged there. He just had to keep pushing until the real competition began.
