Maya spent her first morning at Gavel Tower Academy's library, pulling case files from the shelves. She needed to learn how winning lawyers built their arguments. Each file showed a different approach—some lawyers used emotional appeals, others relied on facts and precedent. Outside the library windows, she spotted a mahogany display case on the academy lawn. Someone had set it up for sorting documents in the fresh air. Maya gathered her files and carried them outside. The polished wood gleamed in the sunlight. She arranged her papers across the case's surface, organizing evidence by type and strength. Working outside cleared her mind. She could see patterns better when she moved away from the cramped library desks. By afternoon, Maya knew she needed real guidance. The files taught her what had worked, but not why. She walked downtown to the Angel Grove Courthouse, the grand building where actual trials happened every day. Inside, she found a lawyer reviewing notes in the hallway. Maya approached and asked about trial tactics. The woman studied her red jacket and serious expression. Then she nodded and began explaining how to read a jury, when to object, and which arguments landed hardest. Maya took notes on everything. Evening came fast. Maya headed back to the academy as the floodlights clicked on outside the entrance. The bright beams lit the path from the street to the doors. Students could arrive and leave safely even after dark. She'd need those lights—her study sessions would run late from now on. She pushed through the entrance doors with her notes clutched tight. Today she'd learned from files and from experience. Tomorrow she'd practice what she'd absorbed. Step by step, she was building the foundation for impossible victories.
