Echo leaned against the pink stadium wall and pulled out her notebook. The finch had been a good sign, but one bird wasn't enough. She needed to understand Fenif better—where injured birds gathered, who knew about wildlife care, what resources existed in this town. She stood and brushed dust from her cargo pants. Time to explore. The main road out of town had a wooden sign she'd never noticed before. A little girl in a red polkadot dress held a bright blue macaw on her arm. The paint looked fresh and cheerful. Echo stopped and stared. Someone here cared about birds enough to put them on a roadside marker. That meant others shared her passion. She felt less alone already. The sign pointed toward the center of town, so she followed it. Downtown, a tall statue rose above the other buildings. Hot pink and black metal twisted together like frozen music. A plaque at the base read: "For those who protect what cannot protect itself." Echo touched the cold metal. Fenif honored people who saved animals. Her sanctuary wasn't just her dream—it fit this town's values. She walked faster now, energized. Two blocks down, she found a clubhouse painted in every bright color she could name. Yellow, orange, green, purple—all swirled together on the walls. A banner hung over the door: "Avian Appreciation Club." Echo pushed inside. Posters of different bird species covered the walls. Empty chairs circled a center table. This was where bird lovers met. She could learn from them, share her rescue stories, find people who'd help at the sanctuary. Echo pulled out a chair and sat down. Her notebook opened to a fresh page. Fenif had everything she needed—markers to guide lost birds home, monuments that celebrated her mission, and a whole community ready to care. She just had to connect the pieces.
