Astra waited at the edge of the floating island as darkness fell. The twin suns dipped below the horizon, painting the sky deep purple. Her striped tail twitched. Tonight was the night. She had watched the patterns, gathered supplies, and prepared the sanctuary. The baby's rescue depended on perfect timing. She took one last look at the bunker's white walls and the glowing reservoir beside it. She moved deeper into the island to check the escape route one final time. Vines hung from the crystal formations above, their tendrils glowing soft blue and purple in the darkness. The light would help her see the path when she carried the baby back here. The bioluminescent glow stretched across the ground like painted lines, marking the way to the bunker. She wouldn't need to fumble in the dark. A papery pod drifted past her ears, floating on the night breeze. Golden spores spilled from its delicate skin, shimmering as they caught the vine light. The pod bumped against a rock and released another cloud of sparkling dust. Astra watched it drift higher, carried by air currents between the floating islands. Everything here moved and changed. The baby would be safe in a world that shifted and adapted. In the distance, a tall tower rose against the starlit sky. Its metal dome caught the glow from distant moons. The telescope mount sat still and silent now, but Astra knew what it once watched for—dangers from space, threats that researchers tried to study and control. She turned away from the tower and headed back to the bunker. The researchers studied threats. She would stop one. It was time to bring the baby home.
