Nellie Oleson straightened her blue bow and surveyed Main Street with sharp eyes. She wanted something grander than anything Walnut Grove had ever seen—an exclusive social club where only the finest families could gather. Her papa owned the mercantile, which made her family important, but a proper club would cement their place at the very top. The empty lot next to the bank caught her attention. It sat right in the center of town where everyone could see it. She pictured a two-story white building with French doors and a wrap-around porch. Plate glass windows would shine in the sunlight. The name would gleam in red and gold letters across the front. Nellie walked to the lot and stood at its edge. She could already see elegant families arriving for dinners and parties. A wooden sign would mark the entrance, letting everyone know this place was special. The church social brought people together once a month, but her restaurant would be open every day. Only the wealthiest families would receive invitations to join. She smoothed her blue dress and smiled. Papa would help her make this real. Walnut Grove would finally have a place where the elite belonged. And Nellie Oleson would stand at the center of it all.
