Felix rolled his wheelchair past a cardboard box in the alley. Three tiny kittens huddled inside, mewing softly. His chest tightened. He counted seven strays this week alone. The city didn't care about abandoned cats. Felix did. He dreamed of building a secret place where every cat could find safety and a home. Somewhere hidden where Mr. Sun's harsh streets couldn't reach them. He scooped up the box and balanced it on his lap. Today, he would start making his dream real. Felix wheeled down three more blocks until he spotted it. An old cottage sat between two buildings, almost invisible from the street. Crystals covered the walls, catching sunlight and throwing rainbows across the ground. Someone had abandoned it years ago. Felix pushed through the overgrown weeds. Inside, the light danced across empty rooms. This was it. This would be his sanctuary. He needed help spreading the word once cats started arriving. Felix remembered the metal workshop two streets over. The owner owed him a favor. By evening, Felix had a golden cat statue sitting in his lap. The metal gleamed under the streetlights. He could place it anywhere in town when adoption days came. People would see it and know where to go. Getting cats to safety meant moving fast through tight spaces. Felix found a metal motorcycle sculpture at the scrap yard. He could attach a carrier to it and push it alongside his wheelchair. The flames welded onto its sides made it look fierce. Perfect for protecting his rescues. Felix looked at the kittens sleeping in their box. His sanctuary was taking shape, one piece at a time.
