Chapter 2

Zephyrion stepped back through the portal and found himself in the forest again. His muscles ached from the training, but his mind buzzed with new possibilities. He needed to understand the basics before he could truly combine blade and spell. His tail swept through the air behind him, tracing patterns he didn't consciously control. The movements felt ancient, like they belonged to someone else. He sat cross-legged on the ground and placed his sword across his lap. First, he would master channeling magic while holding a weapon. Then he would learn to strike and cast at the same moment. He stood and walked until he found what he needed. A stone building rose before him, runes glowing above its entrance. The Enchanted Armory. Inside, weapons lined the walls—each one hummed with magical power. He picked up a staff that crackled with lightning. Then a bow that whispered ice spells. His tail traced circles in the air, excited. These weren't just weapons. They were proof that blade and spell could work together. He studied how the magic flowed through the metal and wood. The enchantments weren't added on top. They were woven into the core of each weapon. Outside, he set up his practice area. A metal stand with copper platform held his spellbook open. Wind turned the pages, settling on a basic fire spell. Nearby, a sharpening stone glowed with runes, embedded in wood and wrapped with roots. He drew his blade and ran it across the stone. Sparks jumped where metal met magic. His sword gleamed brighter. He held the weapon in one hand and traced the fire rune with the other. Heat built in his palm. The spell didn't fizzle this time. Flames danced along his fingers while his grip stayed firm on the hilt. He practiced for hours, switching between the spellbook pages and his blade work. Cast and strike. Channel and slash. His tail moved with him now, copying the motions of his arms. The basics were coming together. Magic didn't have to leave his body when he held steel. It could flow through him, around him, into his weapon. Sweat dripped from his beard, but he smiled. This was the foundation. Every battle-mage started here—learning that warrior and spell-caster weren't two different people. They were one.
