Chapter 1
The Scarf crouched on a rooftop in Boomburg, watching shadows stretch across the streets below. His paint-splattered cloak rippled in the evening breeze. He gripped his ornate blade tighter, thinking about the Dark Goddess Nyx and her plan to cover the world in endless night. He couldn't fight her blindly. Not when she had allies scattered across the city, working to pull Boomburg into permanent shadow. He needed a place to plan, to study the cursed book, to map out where each minion hid. A base where he could prepare for the battles ahead. The Scarf stood and scanned the streets, searching for somewhere the darkness wouldn't find him. An old building caught his eye at the edge of the district. The abandoned funhouse loomed against the night sky, its facade painted in faded blues, reds, and yellows that still swirled faintly in the moonlight. Weather had beaten the structure for years, but the colors held memories of brighter days. The Scarf dropped from the roof and approached the entrance. Inside, broken mirrors and tilted floors created a maze of rooms. Perfect for hiding. Perfect for planning. He pulled out the cursed Iliad and set it on a warped counter. The spirit projector went beside it, its glow pushing back the shadows in the room. This place would work. From here, he would track every ally of Nyx, learn their locations, and stop them one by one. The fight against eternal darkness had a headquarters now.
The Scarf pressed a button on the compact projector. Light burst from the device, flooding the room with a strange glow that made the peeling paint shimmer. He watched the shadows retreat to the corners. This was his weapon against Nyx's darkness. Light strong enough to cut through her minions' power. He opened the cursed book and traced a finger over the pages. Names. Locations. Signs of where her allies gathered. The funhouse would keep him hidden while he learned everything. From this base, he would hunt down each servant of the Dark Goddess. Boomburg would not fall to endless night. Not while he still had breath to fight.
The projector hummed louder as he adjusted the settings. The spirit glow brightened, casting eerie light across the walls. He tested it again, watching how far the beam could reach. Every shadow that touched the light dissolved into nothing. He needed this power. Nyx's forces grew stronger each night, pulling more darkness into the city. But light could push them back. The Scarf placed the device at the center of the room where it could cover the most space. His fingers drummed against the counter. With this tool and the knowledge from the cursed book, he had a chance.
He turned back to the Iliad and flipped through its pages. Gold letters glowed against the aged paper. The artwork seemed to move under his gaze, showing images of gods and monsters. The book whispered secrets about Nyx's allies, revealing where they hid and how they spread their influence. The Scarf pulled out a piece of charcoal and began marking notes on the wall. Three names appeared. Three locations in Boomburg where darkness gathered. He stepped back and stared at his map. This was how he would win. One ally at a time, he would cut down Nyx's forces. The funhouse would be his war room. The projector would be his shield. And the cursed book would guide him to every target. The fight began now.
