Melody Feathers spread her wings and trilled the opening notes of her morning practice. She held each note for exactly three seconds, just like her color-coded chart instructed. The annual songbird competition was only two months away, and she refused to waste a single moment. Every dawn, every scale, every carefully timed breath brought her closer to defeating the reigning champion. She tucked her chart under her wing and launched into her vibrato exercises, her voice rising and falling in perfect waves. She paused mid-trill and pulled out her performance schedule. The competition would take place at the Aviary Amphitheater, a massive venue shaped like a giant bird cage. Its metalwork twisted into intricate patterns, and colors gleamed across every surface. Melody had visited it once before, standing at the entrance with her beak pressed against the gate. The reigning champion had performed inside those curved walls last year. This year, Melody would stand on that stage herself. She would hit every note perfectly, follow every mark on her charts, and claim the title of songbird champion. Her voice would echo through that grand space, louder and clearer than anyone else's. After her warm-ups, she grabbed her observation notebook and flew toward the Luminous Oasis. The small watering hole glowed with a soft light that drew other songbirds from across the forest. Melody perched on a low branch and watched them gather. A finch landed near the water's edge and sang three rising notes. Melody scratched the pattern into her notebook. Another bird joined in with a cascading trill. She recorded that too, timing each phrase with her pocket watch. The reigning champion might have natural talent, but Melody had something better: a system. She would study every technique, practice every style, and combine them into a performance no judge could ignore. By the time she closed her notebook, the sun had climbed higher. She had collected seven new melody patterns to add to her training routine.
