She rested for a moment, then ran through the entire dance from start to finish. When she completed it, her wings fluttered with excitement. The ceremony was getting closer, and she was ready. She left the practice cottage and walked toward the golden tome's entrance to review the final sequences one more time. As she approached, she stopped and stared at something new. Stone pixies now surrounded the entrance, their bodies frozen mid-leap and mid-spin around a central space. Water arced between them in curves that followed their poses. The fountains caught the afternoon light as they rose and fell. Kelala stepped closer and watched the water move through the stone dancers' forms. The sound reminded her of music—steady and rhythmic. She moved between the figures, matching her steps to the fountain's pattern. Each stone pixie showed a different part of the dance she had learned. One spun with arms extended. Another landed from a jump. She copied their poses one by one, feeling how the water's rhythm guided her timing. Her body knew these movements now, and seeing them carved in stone proved how far she had come. Kelala completed the sequence beside the fountains and held her final pose. The water continued its pattern around her, rising and falling without pause. She had mastered every step from the golden tome. She had performed the full dance at the sacred glade. Now these stone figures reflected her own progress back at her, showing that she belonged among the dancers who came before. She walked past the fountains and noticed a tree she hadn't seen before. Its trunk glowed with soft light that pulsed like a heartbeat. She placed her hand on the bark and felt warmth spread through her fingers. Images appeared in the glow—pixies performing the ancient dance at ceremonies past. She watched their movements play out across the tree's surface, seeing how each dancer added their own strength to the steps she had learned. One pixie's spins were fast and sharp. Another moved with slower, flowing grace. Kelala saw herself in both styles. The tree showed her that she had become part of this tradition, that her dance now lived alongside all the others. She wandered through the meadow and found a tree covered in pastel silk ribbons tied to its branches. Each ribbon hung at a different length, some touching the ground while others floated high above. She walked around the trunk and counted them—dozens of ribbons in pink, blue, yellow, and green. They swayed in the breeze, catching the light as they moved. Kelala reached out and touched one. The silk felt smooth under her fingers. She realized each ribbon represented something different for the pixies who had practiced here. Hours spent learning new steps.
