Melody Prism adjusted her pink vest and stared at the worn door of the Rusty Holly dance studio. Purple hair fell across her face as she took a deep breath. Inside that building was Master Chen, the toughest choreographer in the city. He never smiled. He never praised anyone. But if she could win his approval, every door in the entertainment world would open. She knocked twice and pushed through. The studio was empty. A note hung on the mirror in sharp handwriting. "Lessons moved to Sand Surfing Cottage. Beach desert. Find it yourself." Melody's stomach dropped. She had no idea where that was. She walked three blocks to the old trading post near the market. Vines crawled up the chipped wood walls. Inside, a bulletin board covered one wall. She scanned the notices until she found it: a map marking the cottage location in the dunes. The walk took an hour. Sand filled her rainbow sneakers. The cottage rose from the dunes like a blade, all sharp angles and modern lines. Master Chen stood outside, arms crossed. He wore all black. His face showed nothing. Melody pulled the iridescent flask from her yellow pocket. She'd practiced with it every day for three months, perfecting her fluid movements and balance. The flask caught the light and shimmered. "Show me what you can do," Master Chen said. His voice was flat. Melody uncapped the flask and began her routine. She moved through the choreography she'd created, each step crisp and controlled. The sand shifted under her feet but she didn't stumble. Sweat ran down her back. When she finished, Master Chen nodded once. Just once. But his eyes held something new. Not a smile, but maybe the beginning of respect. It was enough. It was a start.
