Noxia walked through the dawn streets with the mask still warm in her coat. The safe house address led her to a low door framed by a bright board listing every rival network in bold colors. The board was the warning. Anyone who crossed under it owed something at the threshold. She had nothing. Inside, a cracked ice-glass notice board stood against the wall. A faded red warning stamp still clung to one corner. Other operatives had left their tokens on the shelf below — a coin, a torn patch, a finger bone wrapped in wire. A keeper waited beside it, arms folded, eyes on her empty hands. Noxia thought fast. She pulled from her coat the courier's sealed lock-order pouch she had taken nights before — the leather satchel still stuffed with the burned edges of the rival spymaster's papers. She set it on the shelf below the cracked glass. "From a courier who will not be missed," she said. "Proof I close mouths that speak against this house." The keeper lifted the satchel, checked a seal, and gave one short nod. He moved the older tokens aside and set hers in the center. The door behind him opened. Noxia stepped through, her first assignment waiting on the other side, and a new debt now stamped beside her name on the glass.
