Tom Hendricks gripped his cane and stared up at the museum's faded sign. His white feathers ruffled in the morning breeze. The building looked tired, forgotten. He wanted to change that. His dream was simple: turn this place into the best veteran memorial center in the state. He pulled a folded paper from his coat pocket. The sketch showed his vision clearly. The old brick edifice would stand proud again. He pictured the Australian and Red Ensign flags flying out front. The Veteran Heritage Center, he'd call it. A place where people would remember. Where stories wouldn't fade like old paint. Tom's talons gripped the cane tighter. This museum deserved better. The veterans deserved better. He'd make it happen, one step at a time. Tom pushed through the front door. The hinges squeaked. Inside, he walked past empty display cases and dusty shelves. He stopped at the back office where boxes lined the walls. His yellow eyes focused on the space. This could work. He imagined a recording station here, sleek and modern. Cameras and microphones to capture the voices of veterans. Their stories needed to be saved before time took them away. He nodded to himself and moved on. Outside in the courtyard, weeds grew between cracked pavers. Tom swept his cane across the ground. He pictured a carved wooden bench sitting right here. A memorial bench where veterans could rest and talk. Where friends could gather and share what they'd been through. Tom looked back at the brick building, then at the empty courtyard. The work ahead was massive. But he'd spent years planning this moment. Now it was time to start building.
