River stepped behind the shop counter and lifted a tray of sample crackers from the shelf. Guests needed to taste the products before buying. The crackers were topped with smoked fish and herbs from the kitchen. River arranged them in neat rows on a wooden serving board. Each piece looked identical, clean and appetizing. A small card beside the tray explained the ingredients in simple words. River straightened the card and stepped back. When customers tried the food, they'd understand the quality. That understanding turned browsers into buyers, and buyers into regulars who'd come back for more. The shop manager had asked River to help with a new display that morning. A vibrant arrangement of indoor edible plants hung in festive pots along the wall. The plants added color and life to the space. River adjusted each hook until the pots hung level. The greenery made the shop feel warmer despite the cold outside. Customers stopped to look at the plants before browsing the products. River noticed one pot held a cushion plant with tiny purple blooms. The plant formed a tight dome shape, built to survive harsh conditions. River touched the edge of the pot and smiled. Something small could still be strong. That afternoon, River sold three gift boxes to a couple looking for souvenirs. They'd asked about the ingredients, and River answered every question without hesitation. The couple left happy, and River marked the sale in the logbook. Three more customers meant three more steps toward the top of that board with the gold letters. River glanced at the cushion plant on the wall again. It didn't need much to survive—just resilience and the right approach. River had both. The path forward was clear, and each sale proved they belonged here.
