Chapter 3

Phi stepped out of the library portal and back into the sanctuary's main hall. Her notebook bulged with everything she'd learned about devotion and connection. But knowledge wasn't enough. She needed to practice, to grow, to become someone worthy of the passion she sought. The sanctuary offered more than just meeting spaces—it held training grounds, workshops, places designed to help people become their best selves. If she wanted to find her match, she had to prepare herself first. She walked toward the eastern corridor where a sign pointed to skill development rooms. Tomorrow she'd start building herself into the person she needed to be. Morning came and Phi returned to the sanctuary. She followed the corridor until it opened into a vast garden behind the main building. Blue flowers covered every surface, glowing with soft light even in daylight. The petals seemed to pulse with energy. Black stone paths wound between the flower beds. Small seating areas dotted the space, each one surrounded by the strange blue blooms. A board near the entrance listed sessions by time—structured meetings where people could practice talking, listening, connecting. Phi signed up for the next available slot. She sat on a black bench and waited, watching others move between stations, greeting new faces every few minutes. This was where she could test what she'd learned. This was where she could build the skills she needed. The session began and Phi moved from person to person, practicing eye contact and conversation. Some people were nervous. Others talked too much. A few seemed just as serious as she was about learning. With each new face, she got a little better at listening, at asking questions that mattered. The blue flowers seemed to glow brighter as the sun moved across the sky. By the time the session ended, her notebook had three new pages of observations. She understood now that finding devotion wasn't just about searching—it was about preparing herself to recognize it and hold onto it when it finally arrived.
