Chapter 6

The three masters faced Adrean in the bone hall. Umbra's shadow crept along the floor. Then a new voice broke the silence, cold and amused. "He is not ready." A throne of dark stone waited at the hall's far end, meant for Adrean's bloodline. It spoke through him, testing him, and its judgment was plain. "Strong, yes. But not yet a god. This seat holds no half-made king." Adrean's fists tightened. Forty years of pain, and still the throne refused him. Behind him, the iron door groaned open on its own. Megalom stood there, blood streaking his white face. "The throne speaks true," the abyssal god said. "My fists made you strong. They cannot make you divine. For that you need other teachers." He gestured to the void beyond the door. "Come. I owe you one more path." Adrean followed him onto the platform in the endless dark. Blue and violet light ringed the cold stone. Two figures waited at its center. The first was small, blue-skinned, a snake coiled at his throat. Shiva Mahadeva, god of destruction. He looked Adrean over with flat, bored eyes. "Another stray of Megalom's," Shiva said. "They break so easily." Beside him stood a broad old man in gold-trimmed armor, one eye scarred shut. Odin Allfather. He leaned on nothing and studied Adrean like a merchant weighing a coin. "Divinity is not strength," Odin said. "It is will. Most die learning that." "Then teach me," Adrean said. Shiva moved first. He raised a hand and the platform cracked. Fire tore across the stone. Adrean threw up his arms and the flames burned through skin, through blood, down to something deeper. He did not fall. His system flashed a stat he had never seen: DIVINITY, one point. Odin struck next, a spear of pure will that split Adrean's mind. He held. Another point. The two gods pressed him for hours that felt like years. Megalom watched from the ring's edge, arms crossed. Then a shadow uncoiled beside him. A man in a black coat, red eyes, dark wings folded tight. Lucifer Morningstar, god of hell, come to see the new blood. "He rises," Lucifer said. "Interesting. Godhood is a door, boy. Once you open it, you cannot close it. Even Yahweh will feel you then." Adrean did not stop. He stood between fire and will and let both burn into him. His DIVINITY climbed past ten. His body reshaped itself, taller, brighter, wrong in a way that made the gods go quiet. When Shiva's next flame washed over him, Adrean caught it and crushed it in his fist. The platform stilled. Shiva lowered his hand. Odin nodded once. "It is done," the old god said. "He has crossed." Adrean felt the change settle into his bones. He was a god now, small and new, but real. Then Lucifer smiled. "You should know," he said softly. "The moment you became divine, every god in creation felt it. Including the one who wants you dead. Yahweh felt a tremendous tremor in reality and wondered what negative Devine energy was created
