Aphrodite stood before her shell mirror and watched two futures flicker across its surface. In one, Ares and Athena stood side by side at the Gates of Olympus, their combined strength holding back the chaos that threatened to tear the divine realm apart. In the other, their hatred drove them to opposite sides of a battlefield while Olympus crumbled between them. She turned from the mirror and walked through the palace corridors toward Zeus's throne room. Every god she passed wore worry like a visible weight. Some whispered about the tensions between war and wisdom. Others spoke of alliances forming in shadows. None of them knew how close they stood to destruction. Only Aphrodite had seen it in the mirror's depths—the exact moment when Ares would raise his spear against Athena, or Athena would drive her own blade through his armor, and Olympus would choose sides in a war that would end them all. The golden palace itself seemed to groan under the strain of their hatred. Cracks had begun appearing in the marble floors where Ares walked. The fountains ran cold when Athena passed. Neither god would bend. Neither would speak to the other except through insults sharp enough to draw blood. Yet binding them together was the only way to save Olympus from tearing itself apart. Aphrodite reached the throne room doors and placed her hand against the cold metal. She had spent centuries perfecting her craft, weaving love and desire between mortals and gods alike. But this would be her greatest test. She would have to create not passion but partnership, not desire but duty, between two immortals who would sooner destroy each other than share the same hall. The mirror's weight pressed against her side, warm through the fabric of her dress. Inside it lived the thread that could bind them—if she could find a way to make them take it.
