Bjorn stood in the recruiting hall and watched three soldiers walk out before he could finish his pitch. They didn't run. They didn't apologize. They just left. He'd spent two months planning this army of enhanced cyber warriors, and now men were vanishing before they even signed on. Therefore, by dawn, he had a body encased in crystal, impaled on a wall outside the hall where everyone could see it. The traitor hung frozen, bones visible through the translucent alien crystal. Bjorn made sure the remaining soldiers walked past it on their way in. He didn't explain who the man was or what he'd done. The crystal caught the morning light and threw blue shadows across their faces. By noon, six new recruits had signed. By evening, the rival crew stopped answering their comm lines.
