Edmund Ashworth stood in the empty storefront on Rue de la Victoire, his green eyes scanning the bare walls and dusty floorboards. He straightened his military coat and pulled a folded sketch from his pocket. The drawing showed elegant leather chairs, polished wood panels, and gentlemen gathered in conversation. This would be Belgique Lavenderai's first true gentleman's club, and he would be its founding member. His fingers traced the lines of his vision. The space was perfect. Outside, a crowd had gathered near an unusual tree with curved stairs wrapping around its base. Edmund climbed the steps, his boots tapping against the wood. He reached the small platform at the top and turned to face the street. Twenty gentlemen in various styles of dress looked up at him. Some wore top hats, others carried walking sticks. Edmund cleared his throat. "I'm establishing a club for distinguished gentlemen," he announced. His voice carried across the morning air. "A place for conversation, games, and refinement." He gestured toward the storefront behind him. "The building will feature Art Deco style with wooden doors and stained glass windows." Several men nodded with interest. One adjusted his spectacles for a better look. Edmund descended the stairs and led the group to the storefront. He unlocked the door and pushed it open. "We'll start with chess matches and card games to find our founding members." The men filed inside, their footsteps echoing in the empty space. Edmund watched them explore the room, pointing at walls and discussing possibilities. His club was beginning. The first members had arrived.
