Effie stood across from the little pink house with the red door and tried to picture her name above the window. Two years of saved coins sat in a jar at home, and this empty shop was the closest her bakery dream had ever felt. But she had no name for it yet. Without a name, she couldn't tell a single soul in Aldenmore it was coming. She pulled a small notebook from her pocket. She wrote words and crossed them out. Sweet Corner. Effie's Oven. Warm Hands Bakery. None of them felt like the place she saw in her head, the one with mismatched chairs and lamps that glowed like late afternoon. Luca found her there, arms crossed, looking up at the bright walls. He had come down from his post near the tower for a short break. He read over her shoulder without asking. "None of those are right," he said. Effie laughed, half tired. "I know. I want it to feel like home. Like someone left the door open for you." Just then a small child wandered past, dragging a stuffed unicorn by one leg. The toy's tiny horn caught the light. The child smiled at Effie like they already knew her. She watched them go. Something settled. She wrote two words and turned the page to Luca. "The Open Door." He nodded once. "That's the one." Effie closed the notebook. Tomorrow she could start telling people. Tomorrow the dream had a name.
