Elderglim Sparkbark placed his hand on the academy doors and felt the waiting end. He had built sixteen forging stations inside. He had set spectral glass in every wall to catch light. He had done everything the prophecy required except wait for the glitter fairy to find her own way. But the troll curse spread faster now, and precision meant knowing when a plan had failed. He pushed the doors open and they swung wide without sound. The golden amplifier he had placed on the steps began to pulse. Purple crystals around its base sent waves of glitter light across the fenlands in rhythmic bursts. The light was designed to call to those who already carried glitter sense inside them — not to create it, but to wake what slept. Inside, the forging stations stood in two perfect rows of eight. Cosmic symbols glowed on their surfaces. Alchemical patterns traced their edges in blue and gold. They had been ready for months, but ready meant nothing without hands to use them. Elderglim adjusted his spectacles and watched the amplifier's light pulse again. Two figures appeared at the edge of the fenlands — a troll fairy boy and a fairy girl, both drawn by the glitter call. The light had found them. Elderglim stepped back from the threshold and let the doorway frame itself in pulsing radiance. The waiting was over, even if the one he waited for had not yet come.
