Chapter 2 of 4

Phi pulled a small notebook from her jacket pocket and opened it to the first page. She needed a plan. Finding someone who matched her passion wouldn't happen by accident. She sat on one of the black benches near the sanctuary's entrance and clicked her pen. At the top of the page, she wrote three words: "Learn to connect." She had to start somewhere. She had to understand what made people open up, what made them trust, what made them stay. Around her, groups talked and laughed together. She studied their body language, the way they leaned toward each other, the way they listened. This was her first lesson. She would watch, practice, and prepare herself for the moment when the right person finally walked through those doors. A shimmer appeared near the back wall of the sanctuary. Colors swirled together—purple, blue, silver—forming a glowing tunnel that seemed to pull at the air around it. Phi stood and walked toward it. The tunnel led somewhere else, somewhere the sanctuary had been hiding. She stepped through. The space on the other side was a library, all black stone and towering shelves filled with thick books. She pulled one down and opened it. The pages showed drawings of people facing each other, talking, listening, staying close through hard times. She read about what devotion actually looked like—not just feeling it, but showing it every day. She copied phrases into her notebook, filling page after page. This was what she needed. She couldn't just want someone devoted to her. She had to understand how that kind of love was built, brick by brick, day by day. When she finally closed the book, she knew where to begin. She would come back here tomorrow and learn more.
