Finn McKenzie sat at the kitchen table and stared at his phone. He had called his brother again that morning. No answer. There never was an answer, not since the fight over the family land. Finn knew he had pushed too hard. He knew it then, and he knew it now. Winning his brother back was the only thing that mattered, and he had no idea how to start. A knock at the door pulled him up. A neighbor stood on the step, breathless. A stranger had set up camp on the family land, she said. He had a tent, a folded chair, and a kettle hung beside the old stone well. He was showing papers to anyone who passed. Finn grabbed his keys. If his brother heard first, every chance of trust was gone. He had to reach that well before the news did.
