Chapter 1
As the sun dipped below the horizon, Ishmael stepped into the vibrant town of Lumia, his coat fluttering dramatically in the evening breeze. The streets buzzed with energy, and every corner seemed to shimmer with possibility. As Ishmael's boots struck the sun-drenched cobblestones of Lumia's main square, Ishmael stood tall, his athletic build and deep brown skin accentuating his commanding presence. Striking hazel eyes looked out from beneath dark, long dreadlocks that framed his sharp, resolute features. Years of physical training and field movement had left his physique rugged and well-conditioned. He wore a durable, utility-crafted vest over a patterned long-sleeve tunic on one arm, while the other arm remained bare, a testament to his readiness for action. His lower body was clad in a rugged, segmented tunic skirt layered over matching trousers, both tucked into sturdy, well-worn leather boots. A heavy leather utility belt crisscrossed his chest and waist, equipped with multiple pouches, straps, and a satchel slung to his side. At his waist, a combat dagger and the hilt of a long sword were sheathed, marking him unmistakably as a practitioner prepared for conflict. The lingering sound of his departing carriage faded away, and he paused, drawing a deep breath—pine sap, woodsmoke, warm leather cloaks, and an ancient aroma, as if the stones themselves whispered legends from ages past. Lanterns shimmered, casting gentle pools of golden light through the brisk evening air, illuminating the animated hustle of the town. Shopkeepers hurriedly closed their windows, arms sweeping in animated arcs while they exchanged goodnights, The breeze carried hints of mulled wine and roasted chestnuts from a vendor meticulously packing up his cart, the flavors and scents giving the night a cozy, festival like feeling. As Ishmael approached the blacksmith's shop, it towered before him like a mystical fortress forged from fire and iron. The heavy wooden door creaked open, revealing a massive stone forge at its heart. Within, a middle-aged woman, her hair pulled back with dramatic flair, expertly stoked the roaring flames with a pair of tongs. Embers floated upward, glittering like magical stars against the shadowy backdrop. The forge's intense heat shimmered in the air, sending waves that seemed to dance across Ishmael's skin, and his footsteps echoed on the packed earth floor as he ventured closer, ready for his next upgrade. Ishmael stood transfixed as the blacksmith—her powerful arms shimmering with sweat—hoisted a half-forged sword from the blazing coals. In the dusky glow of the forge, the metal blazed with a wild red-orange, twisting and glowing beneath her masterful touch. With a determined glint in his eye, Ishmael approached and asked, "How much would it cost for me to get a great sword?" The blacksmith, not even glancing up from the blade she was quenching in a barrel of water, replied in a gravelly voice, "Costs more than most people in this town see in a lifetime." Steam exploded from the water as the searing metal plunged in—a wall of pure white vapor enveloped her, making her silhouette vanish like a spirit. When the mist dissipated, she was wiping her hands on a soot-stained rag, her sharp brown eyes scanning Ishmael's battered leather gear and the humble blade at his hip. "Quality steel like this doesn't come cheap," she said. "The ore's mined deep in the Shadowpeaks, where goblins lurk, and a smith who knows how to work it is rare—almost legendary." With a flourish, she presented three greatswords: one ordinary, one with a blade black as midnight, and one that shimmered with an eerie, rippling hum. She listed their prices—150 silver for the regular one, 240 gold for the black-bladed sword, and 1,400 gold for the mysterious humming blade.
