Mina adjusted the webcam on top of her laptop and clicked the button to start streaming. The Unicorn Girl was going live again, just like every day, and today she'd beat her rival's view count for sure. She had the new game everyone wanted to see, and she'd practiced the hard parts twice already. The screen froze. Her character stopped mid-jump, stuck in the air like a broken toy. Mina tapped the keyboard, clicked the mouse, but nothing changed. The chat started scrolling faster. "Camera glitched again?" someone wrote. "Amy's setup never does this," another said. "That's why I'm subbed to her lol." Mina stared at the comments piling up, each one a tiny cut. She looked at the doll she'd placed next to her monitor—the one with flames painted around it, reminding her how many subscribers her rival had. Her webcam sat balanced on three books because she didn't have a real stand. Mina closed the stream and opened a new browser tab. She searched for camera stands with tall legs and metal grips, the kind that looked professional and expensive. Then she pulled up her phone with the YouTube app still showing her channel page. The Unicorn Girl had good equipment. It just needed to look that way. She clicked the order button and watched the confirmation screen load. Tomorrow's stream would be different.
