Queen Honey B. Hive pressed her spectacles higher on her face and studied the wilting bloom through the academy window. The forest's rarest flower was dying, and with it, the one ingredient that could perfect her eternal youth honey. She had three days at most to collect samples before it disappeared forever. She marched through the classroom, her wing trembling as she adjusted her spectacles again. The young bees scattered from her path without a word. Outside, beneath the ancient tree's drooping branches, she'd already set up the crystal vat with its brass funnels. The pink blossoms hung limp, their petals brown at the edges. She had to work fast. Queen Honey filled three glass jars with nectar, her movements quick and precise. The liquid glowed faint gold in the afternoon light. She sealed each jar with wax and carried them back to her private chambers. The tree would be dead by week's end, but she had what she needed. The secret recipe was one step closer to perfection.
