Scarlett stands beneath the black diamond tree, its purple leaves rustling with chaos above her throne. She watches her first devotee kneel on the cracked stone seat, hands pressed to the glowing heart that splits down the middle. This one came willingly enough, drawn by rumors of her power, but when she demanded surrender, the devotee spoke another's name. Not hers. Someone else's. The audacity of it makes her smile, sharp and cold. She will own the world and everyone in it, and this devotee will be first — once that other name is burned away. She circles the throne, ruby hearts swaying on their threads overhead. The devotee's eyes track her movement, afraid but defiant. Scarlett reaches out, palm up, fingers beckoning. She wants the proof. The surrender. The thing that proves the old love is dead. The devotee hesitates, then pulls something from their chest — a shimmering orb of light that pulses with stars and shadow, beautiful and whole. It hovers between them, warm with memory. "Give it to me," Scarlett says. The devotee's hand trembles. They pull the orb back, clutching it close. Scarlett's smile doesn't falter. She turns away, dismissing them with a wave. The devotee will stay here, kneeling on that broken seat until they understand. Until they break the way she broke. She climbs the golden steps into her palace, leaving them outside with the hearts hanging like warnings. Behind her, the devotee calls out, voice cracking with need and resistance both. She doesn't turn around. Patience is its own kind of power, and she has endless time to wait. The throne remains occupied, a monument to refusal. But Scarlett knows how this ends. They all break eventually. Her own heart broke first, and she learned the lesson well — love is just another word for surrender, and she will never kneel again. This devotee will. They'll give her that glowing fragment of their soul, and when they do, her collection will begin. One heart at a time, until the world is hers.
