Stryker spread Croaker's map across the bar beside the golden fishing rod. The ink showed winding routes through the deep marsh, but one line stopped at a crossed circle marked "chamber." Her finger traced the path there, then stopped. The mark sat beyond another symbol she recognized from Guidry's hidden route. The gate. The one torn open from inside. She looked up at Croaker. "Your map shows the chamber past the broken gate. Whatever escaped is between me and the gem." Croaker nodded slowly, pulling the newspaper closer. "The chamber's in the old ruins. Stone building, half-collapsed. That's where the creature claimed its territory." He tapped a moss-covered stone marker drawn on the map. "You'll know you're close when you see this. Guidry's route will get you near it, but you'll need both maps to reach the entrance safely." Stryker rolled up Croaker's map and tucked it next to Guidry's blood-marked one. She had the route and the destination now, but the path required walking straight toward what had destroyed the containment meant to hold it forever. She found a tent at the edge of the village and spread both maps on a wooden table inside. Guidry's hidden route curved through the marsh to the gate. Croaker's picked up where Guidry's ended, threading past the ruins to the chamber's eastern entrance. The stone marker appeared on both maps, placed exactly where the routes met. She traced the complete path with her finger, understanding what Croaker had given her: not just directions, but proof that reaching the Scaled Gem meant facing whatever had broken free. The maps together showed her the way. They also showed her there was no path around the creature, only through its claimed ground.
