Antares stopped at the school entrance and waited for his best friend. He knew he was lucky. Homeroom 4B with Mrs. Sunflower was the prize of fourth grade, and somehow he had it. He just needed Betelgeuse to walk through those doors so they could share the best year ever. Betelgeuse showed up holding a folded paper. He passed it over without a word. Antares opened it and read the big 4A at the top. A man in a loud flowered shirt stepped out of the doorway. He scanned the crowd and pointed flatly at Betelgeuse. "4A. Inside. Now. Day one means day one." Betelgeuse trudged after him. Antares stood alone with the schedule still in his hand. Down the hall, a woman in a sunflower dress waved him toward 4B. He folded the paper small and walked the other way, lucky and not lucky at the same time.
