Comic Queen's dream is building a famous gaming channel where fans control every choice in her adventures.
Comic Queen sat cross-legged on her bedroom floor, laptop balanced on a pillow, staring at the zero next to the word subscribers. She'd uploaded her first video three days ago. The screen showed her channel name in blocky letters above a single thumbnail. No comments. No views except her own. She clicked refresh anyway. The screen blinked. One view. Then two. A comment notification appeared. She leaned forward. The username was Cake-is-disgusting190. The comment read: "nice try but this is MY mountain now." Below it, a second comment from cookiebabe23: "don't listen to him! loved the video!" Comic Queen's hands hovered over the keyboard. She'd expected silence, not a fight between strangers. She opened a new document and typed a question for her next video. "You two seem like opposites. Should I build something for the person who hates cake, or the one who loves cookies?" Her finger paused over the post button. This wasn't how she'd imagined her second video. But waiting felt worse than diving in. She hit post and started recording. The camera light turned red. She held up a small cupcake with pink frosting and rainbow sprinkles on one side of the frame, then a cutout of a character with horns and a heart shirt on the other. "Welcome back. You're in control now. Tell me who wins." She uploaded the video before she could second-guess it. Two subscribers appeared on her dashboard. The channel had begun.
Comic Queen refreshed her channel page again. Four views on the second video. Three comments. The first two were from her subscribers, still arguing about cake versus cookies. The third comment stopped her hand mid-scroll. The username was tagmeme67. The comment said: "hey sis, mom told me to check this out. pretty cool idea." Comic Queen's stomach dropped. She hadn't told anyone in her family about the channel yet. She typed a reply and deleted it twice. Her little sister finding the channel felt like someone walking into her room without knocking. But tagmeme67 had subscribed. That meant five subscribers now. Comic Queen opened the game and started building, setting up a small cottage with pink flowers out front for her sister's character. A notification popped up mid-build. New comment from ham+cheese=best: "tagmeme67 is a baby and her ideas are garbage. Listen to ME or this channel dies." She stared at the screen. Her older brother had found it too. Comic Queen recorded herself placing a tall tower with a crown on top across from the cottage. She explained both structures in the video without picking a side. "You're both here now. You both get space. Tell me what happens next." She uploaded it before she could think about what her brother would say at dinner. The comment section filled up in minutes. Her two original subscribers had picked sides. Strangers jumped in. The view count hit twenty. She placed a statue between the tower and cottage in the next build, an angel and a shadowy figure locked together. Her hands shook as she recorded the voiceover. "This is what you're making. Keep going." When she posted it, her brother left three angry comments in a row. Her sister posted a single heart emoji. Comic Queen closed the laptop and sat with her back against the bed. The channel wasn't private anymore. Her family was in it now, and so were people she'd never meet. She couldn't unsee that. The six-month deadline felt different when it involved her brother's voice in her comments.
Comic Queen opened the comment section the next morning and found seventeen new messages. Most were picking sides between her brother and sister. Two were asking when she'd play something different. One stood out. A username she didn't recognize had posted: "make them race for a horse. loser has to use the stinky one." She read it three times. A race would give both sides something to fight for instead of just yelling in her comments. She opened the game and started building a track that wound through the mountains. At the start line, she planted a weeping willow with pale purple branches that swept down like curtains. On one side of the tree, she placed a disco ball that sparkled in the game's sunlight. On the other side, a cracked skull half-buried in dirt. The objects marked where each rider would begin. She built two horses at the finish line. One was clean and strong, labeled stinky-monkey34 in her notes. The other looked mean and fast, labeled mollytime-evilQuinn1355. She recorded the setup and explained the rules in her voiceover. "Pick your side. Race for the good horse or the bad one. Winner takes their pick. Loser gets what's left." She posted the video and waited. Her brother commented first: "I'm taking the evil horse because I'm GOING to win." Her sister replied with: "fine by me, the good one is cuter anyway." Three strangers jumped into the thread arguing about which horse was actually better. Someone suggested the stinky horse should be the prize and the good one should be the punishment. Her original subscribers started debating what "good" and "bad" even meant. The view count climbed to forty-two. Comic Queen watched the comments pile up and realized she'd lost control of which horse was which. The audience was rewriting the rules she'd just made. She typed a new comment under the video: "You're right. I got it backwards. Vote on which horse is the real prize." A poll appeared in the next post. Her hands didn't shake this time. The chapter wasn't about her brother or her sister anymore. It was about whether she could let go when the audience pulled the story somewhere she hadn't planned. When the votes came in split almost perfectly down the middle, she knew she'd gotten her answer. She built a black heart with cracks running through it and placed it between the two horses. "Both sides think they're winning," she said into the microphone. "That's exactly right." She uploaded it and closed the laptop. The channel was doing what she'd built it to do, even when it meant she couldn't predict what happened next.
