Another child is already there, small hand patting the same yellow petals. The boy wears red sneakers and holds a book in his other hand. He pats the flower gently, then looks at a page. He doesn't see her yet. Me at 1 sits back on her bottom and watches. A wooden sign leans against the flower's stem. Blue letters spell words she doesn't know. She crawls closer. The boy looks up. His green eyes meet her brown ones. For a moment, neither moves. Then Me at 1 reaches out and pats the flower too. Her hand lands right next to his on a yellow petal. The boy pulls his hand back and frowns at the sign. But Me at 1 keeps patting. The flower is big enough for both hands. The sun shines on the petals and makes them glow.
