Chapter 1

Twinkleweed Kelpbottom ground another batch of mushroom caps into powder, their clawed fingers working the mortar with practiced speed. The green strands of kelp hanging from their body swayed as they moved. They needed the perfect blend—something strong enough to wake a stone giant from centuries of sleep. The workshop smelled like dirt and spores. Jars lined the walls, each filled with different mushroom varieties. Twinkleweed had been collecting them for decades, maybe longer—time blurred together after a thousand years. They grabbed a wheelbarrow made of crystallized sea salt, its surface studded with purple gems. Crabs skittered across the salt crystals, their tiny legs clicking. Perfect for gathering more ingredients from the forest. The treants might be dormant, but mushrooms still grew in their shadows. Twinkleweed pushed the wheelbarrow toward the door, already planning which clearing to search first. The forest yielded twelve new varieties—caps with silver gills, stems that glowed faint blue, clusters that smelled like rain. Twinkleweed loaded each one carefully into the wheelbarrow. The crabs helped, their claws gentle as they arranged the mushrooms. Back at the workshop, Twinkleweed began construction on a kiosk made from weathered purple wood. They wrapped strands of kelp around the posts, securing each joint. This would be where they served their ultimate blend. This would be where ancient beings would wake. Twinkleweed stepped back and examined the kiosk. The purple wood gleamed in the dim light. They arranged their best jars along the counter—quintuple-spore espresso, triple fermented spore coffee, and the new experimental batches. When the blend was perfect, the stone guardians would rise. The magic streams would flow again. Maybe even the celestial whales would return. Twinkleweed picked up their mortar and pestle. They had work to do.

Chapter 2

Twinkleweed arranged the new mushrooms on the kiosk counter, organizing them by potency. The silver-gilled ones went left. The blue-glowing stems went right. They needed to learn which varieties worked best together—trial and error, one batch at a time. The first test blend fizzled and turned gray. Too much fermentation. The second tasted like mud. Not enough spore concentration. Twinkleweed ground fresh caps, adjusted ratios, and tried again. By the seventh attempt, steam rose from the cup with a sharp, earthy smell that made their kelp strands quiver. They took a sip. Energy buzzed through their limbs. This was close. Very close. Twinkleweed grabbed their mortar and began grinding the next batch, already planning how to make it stronger. The light was fading now. Twinkleweed needed customers—actual beings to test the blend on. They pulled out a lamp made from salt and stone, its purple gems catching the last rays of light. The gems began to glow as darkness settled in. Twinkleweed set it on the counter where it would be visible from a distance. Ancient beings would recognize the signal. The kiosk was open. The blend was ready. Now someone just had to show up and drink it.
