Zahra Flameborne's dream is becoming a well known master illusionist.
Zahra Flameborne traced a glowing arc through the air with one finger. The shimmer solidified into a phantom scorpion the size of a wagon. Its tail curved high, dripping illusion venom that sizzled into nothing. She grinned and made it scuttle in circles. This was just practice. Soon everyone in New Xaxsuroth would know her name. They'd whisper about the fire spirit who could bend reality itself. Master illusionist—that's what she'd become. She dismissed the scorpion with a flick of her wrist. Time to build something permanent. Her flames brightened as she pulled heat from the air around her. Stone slabs rose from the ground, grinding and clicking into place. Natural rock formed steps and a wide platform. She wove threads of magic through the structure until colorful glows pulsed across its surface—red, gold, violet, green. The Enchanted Mirage Stage stood complete. This would be her theater. Here, crowds would gather to watch her twist reality. Here, she'd prove herself worthy of the title she craved. The stage hummed with magical energy, waiting for its first real performance.
Zahra floated above her new stage, flames crackling with excitement. The platform glowed beneath her, but it was empty. She needed an audience first—people to watch, to gasp, to spread word of her talents. Her tail swished as she scanned the desert. A cluster of travelers moved along a distant path, their packs heavy on their shoulders. Perfect. She raised both hands and pulled heat from the sand. The air rippled and twisted. A shimmering oasis appeared between the travelers and her stage, complete with swaying palms and crystal water. They'd follow it straight to her. She grinned and descended to the platform, smoothing her flames into an elegant shape. Time to show them what a master illusionist could do. The travelers were getting close now, stumbling toward her illusion with desperate hope in their eyes. But Zahra paused. The desert air was too clear, too ordinary. She needed more than just heat shimmer to sell her performance. Real masters used every tool available. She spotted a metal device half-buried near her stage—someone must have abandoned it. She yanked it free and twisted the dials until thick white mist poured from its vents. The fog rolled across the ground, swallowing the base of her stage in swirling clouds. Now the oasis looked truly magical, mysterious and impossible. The travelers stopped at the edge of the mist, staring with wide eyes. Zahra rose above them, flames bright against the fog, and their mouths fell open. One dropped to his knees. Another backed away, shaking. She laughed and made the oasis vanish, replaced it with three burning suns that blinked down at them like enormous eyes. They ran screaming, but they'd remember. They'd tell everyone about the fire spirit who bent the world itself. Her first real audience, and already she'd made them believers.
