Ajax woke before the others. Tucker slept beside him with one arm across his chest. The fire was down to coals. Ajax lay still and thought about the night. Marco had kissed him. Tucker had kissed him after. Both men were sworn to him. Both slept in his camp. He had made a rule about consent and he had kept inside it. He had also crossed a line he did not want to cross twice in one night but he wanted it again and would cue them when he did. Ajax rolled on top of Tucker and kissed him again, lingering a moment with a hand on his chest. He said quietly to Tucker, “When we have the time, I want this to happen again. I’ll let you know.” They got up, dressed, and returned to camp.
