Rupert swept the last autumn leaves from the village square's center stone, his bushy tail flicking with satisfaction. This spot would become the realm's premier gossip exchange—a place where secrets traded hands like currency and information flowed freely. He'd already learned that the baker's wife met someone mysterious at the glowing tide pools after midnight, and Old Grimsby would pay good honey for such tales. He pulled a purple bell from his satchel and held it up to the morning light. The metal gleamed with an odd shine that caught the eye. Rupert gave it a test ring—the sound carried across the square, clear and demanding. Perfect. When villagers heard this chime, they'd know someone had news worth hearing. He rang it again, louder this time, and watched three merchants turn their heads. A grin spread across his bearded face. His gossip exchange needed a way to gather crowds, and this bell would do exactly that. He tucked it back into his satchel and patted the leather. The village square would soon hum with whispered secrets and traded tales, all because of one simple bell. But a bell alone wouldn't be enough. Rupert walked the square's edges, his eyes scanning the empty space between the market stalls. He needed somewhere permanent, somewhere grand. A building where villagers could gather day and night to share their secrets. He stopped and traced a large rectangle in the dirt with his boot. Two stories tall, he decided. Purple gemstones would catch the light and draw people in. The Amethyst Haven Tavern—that's what he'd call it. Inside, drinks would flow and tongues would loosen. Every whispered conversation would pass through his ears. Every secret would have its price. Rupert stepped back and admired the outline he'd drawn. His gossip exchange would live here, right in the heart of the village square. The realm's premier place for trading information would soon be real.
